About

We are concerned citizens, community and business leaders, and residents who have come together to address the most urgent public issues including health, safety, and environmental concerns in our area.

The Alexander Valley Citizens League is applying for 501(c)(3) charitable organization status. The group focuses on community, civic, health, safety, environmental, and social issues that impact our residents. Membership is open to all Alexander Valley residents and any who support our efforts.

Our Mission

Following the devastation of the Pocket Fire and its huge threat to our community, the League's highest priority became getting a permanent new bridge built at the Asti Crossing across the Russian River.  The fire brought home the critical need for a permanent bridge to provide an alternative escape route for all those living south of Crocker Road and First Street Bridge and to assure firefighting access to our area east of the river.  The need for the permanent bridge was reinforced by the more recent Kincade Fire. The permanent bridge will offer safe, secure, year-round access to the community for residents, visitors, and emergency personnel.

We are also seeking greater property owner participation in the emergency response COPE program to assure that all property owners in the Asti area east of the river are alerted and accounted for in the event of a serious emergency that threatens them and their property.

To carry out this mission, our efforts include:

  • Promoting the permanent bridge solution for the critical safety and environmental concerns with the annual temporary “Summer Bridge” at the Asti Crossing.

  • Campaigning for road repairs and improvements.

  • Establishing a community-based COPE program.

  • Working with Supervisor James Gore and Johannes Hoevertsz, the Director of the Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works, and other County personnel for the permanent bridge and other projects.

  • Working with the Cloverdale Fire Protection District, the Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District and CalFire to enhance fire protection and emergency responses for our community.

  • Working with the environmental agencies involved with the bridge.

  • Seeking to develop more public access to the Russian River as part of the permanent bridge project.

  • Raising funds to cover a bridge feasibility study and other actions to support the permanent bridge project
